Things that make me question our society: The Smart Cycle

An exercise bike for children. Has it really come to this? Now I can understand where this could have some good applications, but for the vast amount of kids, completely ridiculous. Then again I also find exercise bikes for adults ridiculous.

The best part? Reading the customer comments on it on Amazon. Here are some of my favorite issues that people had:

"Games are poorly designed. The child can easily meet the game's objectives by doing nothing at all. Sheer probability and no penalties of any kind mean that even if the child does not move his arms at all, and simply peddles, he will find all the letters, or numbers, or whatever. Shouldn't an educational product also teach a child how to lose?"

This particular review went on for paragraphs. And educational products teaching children how to lose? Hilarious. Any child in that household is going to need some serious therapy.

"No resistance pedaling - this seems almost dangerous for young knees, there is literally nothing slowing down pedaling. It would be nice and smart to be able to dial up a bit of resistance on the machine. "

What they should do is take some rubber bands and attach them between the pedals and the handlebars to get some additional resistance. Put some ankle weights on the kiddies. Maybe crank the heat up in the house so they'll work a better sweat.

"We're excited that they enjoy the activities and learning adventures. Plus, the fitness component is wonderful for these cold, snowy, winter months."

Contrary to popular belief you can go outside and exercise in the winter. I hear they're even making snowsuits and boots for kids these days so you don't have to stuff their clothes with hay and have them wear bread bags over their feet to keep them dry.

"My little guy got this for his 4th birthday and lvoes it! It's been nice to see him doing something besides lumped in a chair watching tv!"

..I had bought him an iron lung, but he told me it was ugly and that I was dumb, so I guess I'll have to return it. He's such a sweet little pooh-bear.

" I'm going to return it and get him a bicycle instead. "

At least someone was talking sense.
